Managing Quarantined Items

Once you log into your CRV Spam Firewall Account, you will see the following:

Quarantine

The quarantine tab will show a list of your quarantined messages.

Next to each message is a square checkbox.

Above the list are three buttons: Deliver, Whitelist, and Delete.

Assuming your quarantine list contains some messages you want and some messages you do not want here is what you would do.

The goal is to go through the messages in three passes, i.e. mark only those you want to delete and take action on them, then mark only those you wish to whitelist and take action on them, and then mark only those you wish to have delivered to you and take action on them.

Deliver - put a checkmark to the left of each message you want to receive, and click the "deliver" button. Only mark those messages you wish to receive.

Whitelist - put a checkmark to the left of each message where you want to "whitelist" the sender, i.e., This would be someone who is OK and you always wish to receive their emails. Then click the "whitelist" button. Only mark those messages you wish to whitelist so that you do not accidentally add a "spam" sender to your whitelist.

Delete - put a checkmark to the left of each message you wish to delete, then click the "delete" button. Only mark those messages you wish to delete.

Preferences

The preferences tab has five (5) sub-areas that you may visit to set your preferences.

Quarantine Enable/Disable: You may enable or disable the quarantine feature. If you don't want the CRV Spam Firewall to "catch" messages that it defines as spam and store them in your quarantine account, you may disable the quarantine feature. If you disable quarantine, all your mail will just be sent directly to you.

Spam Filter Enable/Disable: You may enable or disable the spam scanning feature. The CRV Spam Firewall scans all messages for offensive subjects, known scams, and can scan for some words in the body of the message. If you do not want it to scan your incoming messages, you may turn off spam scanning here.

Whitelist/Blacklist: In the Whitelist/Blacklist tab, you may add in email addresses that you always wish to receive or always wish to block. You may also block entire domains, so if you never want to receive mail from Yahoo, you could put "yahoo.com" in the "blocked" area and click the "Add" button the CRV Spam Firewall would then block any mail from "yahoo.com" from reaching you.

Quarantine Notification: If you have enabled the Quarantine feature, you'd probably like to know when mail has arrived that the CRV Spam Firewall has retained and kept away from your email inbox. You may set the Quarantine Notification feature to send you a daily or weekly summary of what has been quarantined on our box. (Or you can elect to get no notification whatsoever.) As some items will continue to be quarantined based on global rules outside of your control, we recommend that you elect to receive notifications of quarantined items. Then you can delete or deliver those items as you choose.

Security: The CRV Spam Firewall assigns you a random password the first time you access it, or the first time you receive a quarantined message. If you want to change the password that it selected, you may visit the Security screen and set up a new password for yourself.
